This is an opportunity to do meaningful work for two nonprofits focused on health care in Oregon  -- The Lund Report and Oregon Health Forum. The Lund Report, an independent news site fueled by paid subscriptions, publishes in-depth stories online that dig deeper than other news outlets covering the business of health in Oregon. The site published a bi-weekly newsletter. Its sister organization, the Oregon Health Forum, brings together thought leaders for monthly breakfast meetings and other events that examine important health care issues.   The administrative assistant will support both organizations, including subscription management for The Lund Report and event planning for the Oregon Health Forum.  Qualifications include skills in customer engagement; event hosting; tools of the trade, e.g., MS Office and social media; basic bookkeeping, and multi-tasking.   • Track expenditures, create budget reports and manage bank accounts.
  • Schedule board meetings, help prepare agendas, board materials and manage bank accounts, credit cards and the Stripe system  


  • Oversee premium subscriptions, handle fiscal concerns and update donation records
  • Maintain the email list on MailChimp 
  • Deposit checks and acknowledge subscription renewals and donations
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports
  • Encourage readers to become premium subscribers
  • Promote stories on Facebook and Twitter 
  • Prepare 1099s for independent contractors and the annual 990s for the Department of Justice
  • Promote Health Hires by encouraging employers to advertise, prepare the job listings for the bi-weekly newsletters and update website links
  • Assist organizations interested in advertising their events on our websites.
  • Handle all correspondence, maintain files


  • Help arrange breakfast forum advisory committee and leadership dinner meetings  
  • Take minutes at committee meetings and distribute them to the attendees
  • Handle materials for the breakfast forums, including the name tags, bios, surveys, posters and make copies in advance
  • Oversee registration at forums and annual dinner
  • Send special alerts about each event and promote them on social media
  • Compile surveys following the events


  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Basic financial and bookkeeping skills to track expenses, manage bank accounts and update budget spreadsheets
  • Command of MS Office, digital skills and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, MailChimp, Twitter)   
  • Ability to help The Lund Report increase premium subscriptions and attract new sponsors and attendees to Oregon Health Forum events


  • Start date: September 16, 2019
  • Full time, 9 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday with the exception of breakfast forums that begin at 6 a.m.
