We're seeking a Medical Receptionist to join our team!  This position is the main receptionist for Albertina Kerr Centers, the Medical Receptionist for our Outpatient clinic, and acts as a medical billing representative.  As our Medical Receptionist you will answer incoming calls, greet patients and agency visitors in person or on the telephone, schedule patient appointments, maintain records, collect co-pays and post fees according to protocol.  Additionally, you'll distribute incoming faxes, distribute and meter mail and order office supplies. For medical billing support, you will manage electronic claim submission, work rejected claims, ensure billing and follow-up is completed in a timely and accurate manner, and will analyze, accept, and import claim runs and payments into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. 

 

Essential Duties

- Answer incoming calls and provide general information about Albertina Kerr. Provide efficient and professional telephone services; transfer calls according to established protocols.

- Greet patients and agency visitors in person or on the telephone; direct all persons to the appropriate location and services; be courteous, polite and helpful to the public and clients at all times.

- Schedule appointments for clients in person or by telephone upon request, verifies insurances, and links referrals to appointments. 

- Thoroughly and accurately documents insurance verification information in the appropriate system.

- Collect all co-pays and post fees according to protocol. 

- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of specific registration requirements.

- Submit electronic claims and work rejected claims in EHR system. Ensures coverage, authorization, claim billing and follow-up is performed in a timely and accurate manner.

- Review work queue reports and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely collection.

- Analyze, accept, and import claim runs and/or payments into the EHR system.

- Open, sorts and distributes mail and meters outgoing mail.  Distributes employee paychecks and performs client file maintenance. 

- Maintain business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level.

- Maintains/Updates Emergency Call List.

- Updates organizational phone lists and documents as needed.

- Scan and email documents as requested by Kerr CBS staff.

- Provides backup to the Medical Assistant as needed.

- Prepares deposits for the Revenue Cycle team.

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

- Three plus years medical receptionist or medical billing experience. Scheduling experience is highly preferred.

- Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA regulations, confidentiality, and disclosure of information.

- Knowledge of insurance billing practices, behavioral health codes and insurance requirements for payment.

- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to appreciate and function as part of a diverse work team.

- Experience with email, Outlook, Microsoft Word and intermediate to advanced Excel skills and knowledge and ability to learn new software programs including Electronic Health Record (EHR).

- Excellent phone etiquette and customer service.

- Confidentiality and integrity at the highest level. 

- Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaking ability preferred.

Required Education and / or Certifications: 

- Associates degree or equivalent work experience.
