Wyden Statement on Trump Administration’s Plan to Reorganize Basic Assistance, Slash Benefits for Millions of Americans

June 22, 2018

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s announcement it plans to reorganize and consolidate safety-net programs under the Department of Health and Human Services:

“The Trump administration has shown it has everything except the public’s welfare in mind when it comes to the priorities of the Department of Health and Human Services. The administration is attempting to reorganize an agency while trying to dismantle the very services it’s intended to provide. Embarking on a massive waste of taxpayer dollars to rearrange basic assistance that millions of our most vulnerable Americans rely on, including SNAP, will only make it harder for people who need help to get it.”
