Willamette Dental Group Pledges $1 Million to Support OHSU’s Knight Cancer Challenge

June 23, 2014

Willamette Dental Group, the Pacific Northwest’s largest multispecialty group dental practice, has committed to fighting cancer head-on by pledging $1 million to Oregon Health & Science University’s Knight Cancer Challenge.

Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, launched the Knight Cancer Challenge in September 2013 when they pledged $500 million to OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute if OHSU raises another $500 million by February 2016.

Over the course of 12 months, Willamette Dental Group employees will contribute to the Challenge; Willamette Dental Group will match employee contributions; and Dr. Eugene Skourtes, President and CEO, will match the combined total. Ultimately, each employee’s contribution will be leveraged 8:1 when accounting for the Knights’ challenge pledge.

“The focus of Dr. Brian Druker’s work at the Knight Cancer Institute is truly in alignment with the proactive, evidence-based philosophy of Willamette Dental Group. Cancer has a devastating impact on everyone, including our families and our friends. Supporting OHSU’s Knight Cancer Challenge is worthy of making this investment to help cure this disease,” shared Skourtes.

Dr. Skourtes sits on the OHSU Foundation Board of Trustees, and has been a major contributor to many of the prestigious institution’s efforts, including the new OHSU School of Dentistry on the South Waterfront in Portland.
