St. Charles Redmond Nurses Vote in Favor of Contract

January 24, 2011 -- The nurses at St. Charles Redmond voted in favor of ratifying their three-year Oregon Nurses Association contract Thursday.

“We are so pleased that the nurses felt the contract was fair and voted in favor of supporting it,” said Katy Vitcovich, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for St. Charles Health System. “I’d like to thank everyone who was involved in the negotiations for working well together, respecting one another and coming up with a contract that both sides felt comfortable recommending.”

The changes in the contract language will result in cost savings to the health system when it comes to health and welfare benefits and premium pay expenses. Because of these savings, the health system was able to offer the Redmond nurses wage increases over the three-year contract to help retain its highly skilled nursing staff and to continue offering important health care services to the community. In the first year the nurses will receive a 1 percent increase. They will receive 2 percent increases in the second and third years of the contract.

“ONA thanks all our members who turned out and voted, and especially appreciates the efforts of the negotiating teams and the mediator,” said Alison Hamway, ONA labor representative to the Redmond nurses. “Negotiations were not easy, but overall the result was a good contract. The ONA negotiating team unanimously recommended the contract which has been ratified by the members.”

The Redmond nurses will also join the Bend nurses and unrepresented caregivers in the new St. Charles health and welfare benefits plan as part of the contract agreement.
