Portland’s Original Iron Chef Benefits Children’s Relief Nursery
October 16, 2012 -- Some of Portland’s top chefs, including “reigning champion” Rick Widmayer of The Screen Door, will battle it out for the title of “Portland’s Original Iron Chef” on October 25th at a fundraising event benefitting the Children’s Relief Nursery, now a program of LifeWorks NW. On the event’s new fall date Widmayer will compete to defend his title while all the events proceeds will support the prevention of child abuse and neglect in the community.
Guests have the opportunity to meet the individual chefs and sample their innovative “autumn themed” appetizers. As a guest, you will be the judge of who deserves this fall’s title of Portland’s Original Iron Chef. The evening will also consist of delicious wines and beer, scrumptious dessert, and a live and silent auction where guests can partake in supporting and learning about the critical work of the Children’s Relief Nursery.
This year’s contenders include Rick Widmayer (reigning champion) of the Screen Door; Gavin Ledson of Davis Street Tavern; Ben Shaw of Simpatica; Jill Ramseier of Deschutes Brewery; and Laura Rhoman of Slappy Cakes.
Children’s Relief Nursery is dedicated to keeping children safe and families strong. For over a decade, it has worked with at risk families for child abuse and neglect, incorporating wrap-around services that include parenting education, therapeutic classrooms for children, respite childcare, mental health therapy and home visits. Children’s Relief Nursery builds healthy relationships between parents and their children and works with infants and toddlers up to age four as early intervention in the first years of life is critical to a child’s future development.
Children’s Relief Nursery became a program of LifeWorks NW on July 1, 2012, a non-profit organization dedicated to building healthy community through prevention, mental health and addiction services across the lifespan.
Event sponsors include: NW Natural, The Standard and Providence Health & Services.
