Oregon’s Health CO-OP reminds Oregonians: Open Enrollment starts on November 15

Open enrollment for individuals is right around the corner, and yet many individuals are not aware of this important date..
November 13, 2014

Portland, OR – The second annual open enrollment period under the Affordable Health Care act begins on November 15. For consumers, that’s good news. The bad news? According to recent reports, the vast majority of uninsured individuals across the country—nine out of ten, in fact—are unaware that the new open enrollment period is approaching.

Dr. Ralph Prows, CEO of Oregon’s Health CO-OP, sees this as a challenge for  health insurers need who need  to step up as advocates for consumers, in order to answer their questions and simplify the process.

“There will be many questions about open enrollment as well as the move to Healthcare.gov for eligibility for tax credits. Our mission is to be in the consumer’s corner and be a resource to them if they are confused about the process and options.”

Changes coming

With the upcoming open enrollment date, consumers will encounter a number of changes across the health insurance industry.

“For some, the open enrollment period will come with near double-digit percentage jumps in their existing plans,” explains Dr. Prows. “It’s important that families know THERE ARE CHOICES around networks and prices and they are not locked into plans with high increases. They need to shop around and check out  all carriers, such as Oregon’s Health CO-OP who actually reduced their premiums.”  Prows continued by saying, “The process can be simple and there are tools for individuals and families that will simplify the quoting and enrollment process

“We remain focused on redefining the relationship people have with their health insurer,” Prows says. “Good customer service is built into our foundation. With an improved shopping experience, both online and by phone, consumers will have an even easier time finding the coverage they want at a price that works for them.”
