Gresham officials to honor domestic violence victims and survivors at candlelight vigil‏

Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury and District 4 Commissioner Diane McKeel will join state Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-Gresham) and Representative Carla C. Piluso (D-Gresham) at a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, Oct. 6 in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The event will provide a public space to offer support to domestic violence survivors and the loved ones of victims.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nearly 5 million women nationwide experience physical violence by an intimate partner each year. One in four women experiences domestic violence during her lifetime.

Residents of Multnomah County have the highest rate of domestic violence in Oregon. One in seven women in the county experiences domestic violence annually.

Multnomah County offers a wide variety of services to assist victims of domestic violence, including support for those fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, long-term housing assistance and supportive services for victims who need additional support and crisis intervention for domestic violence cases with a high risk for ongoing, severe violence.
