(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.)—PacificSource Health Plans was recently recognized by the Portland Business Journal as one of the Healthiest Employers of Oregon, taking fifth place in the large business (500-1,499 employees) category.

“Most adults spend the majority of their waking time at work, making it the perfect place to offer, promote, and encourage healthful habits,” said Sally Cummings, employee wellness specialist for PacificSource Health Plans. “We believe an organization’s culture and environment are powerful influences on behavior that can be used to help employees adopt lifelong healthy habits, which is why PacificSource has been providing these tools, programs, and incentives to employees and clients for more than 12 years.”

The annual survey, conducted by Healthiest Companies LLC, ranked businesses in categories based on number of employees. Some of the health-promoting tools that PacificSource makes available to its employees in the workplace, and encourages its clients to incorporate into a company-wide wellness program, include:

  • Nutritious snack options in company vending machines
  • Presentations on preventative care
  • Annual biometric screenings
  • Exercise classes
  • Team sports
  • Company-wide fitness challenges
  • Complimentary race entry fees
  • Onsite fitness centers
  • A lottery to win one of 250 sit/stand work stations
  • Online health coaching through Web portal
  • Dedicated health promotion and wellness staff

In addition, 2015 saw the launch of PacificSource’s Healthy High 5 program. PacificSource’s Health Promotion and Wellness team, Chief Medical Officer, and VP of Human Resources selected five activities as evidence based practices that help prevent long-term chronic conditions and diseases. After completing the five activities, including a dental cleaning, PCP designation, biometric screening, HRA completion, and a flu shot, employees are rewarded with $150 to put toward an FSA contribution, a charitable deduction, or a premium deduction.
