'Oregon Bio 2014: An Industry Inflection Point' is the theme of the Oregon Bioscience Association's 2014 annual conference, which launches on Monday, September 15 and continues through Wednesday, Sept. 17 https://oregonbio.org/events/annual-conference-2014. Keynote and featured speakers include- https://www.oregonbio.org/keynote-speakers - nationally renowned thought leaders in the commercialization economy, product and therapeutic development, industry research and development. In addition, Oregon Bio introduces a new feature called "Biosensor/Data Processing Day," further enriching a national and international roster of  recognized keynote speakers that includes:

  • Jill Hagenkord, M.D., FCAP, Chief Medical Officer, 23andme
  • Jeffrey Trent, Ph.D., President and Director, TGen
  • Ted Goldstein, former Apple vice president
  • Thomas Fogarty, M.D., Fogarty Institute for Innovation
  • Raymond DuBois, M.D., Executive Director, BioDesign Institute at ASU
  • William Goldstein, Ph.D., Director, Lawrence Livermore National Labs

"It's time, as an industry, that we start to examine both the growing commercialization opportunities and the innovation that already exists here in Oregon for the development of bio devices and biotechnologies," said Oregon Bioscience Association's Executive Director, Dennis McNannay. "We believe the 2014 program clearly demonstrates Oregon's bioscience industry is at an inflection point."

The three-day format - https://oregonbio.org/conference-schedule  - not only provides attendees with the opportunity to discover industry R&D and investment opportunities, but also allows them to develop strong investor relationships, explore partnering opportunities and learn about important industry trends helping shape the market for their products. From the exciting progress of the Knight Cancer Challenge and its fundamental impact on Oregon to exciting new markets being driven by the new generation of biosensors, the Oregon Bio 2014 provides something for everyone.

Day one on Sept. 15 will focus on bio-entrepreneurship.  Attendees will learn about the breadth and depth of local research and entrepreneur opportunities. Attendees will hear from national experts on the industry trends driving venture capital investing and how companies can react to our changing times, economic fluctuations and health care trends.  The conference will once again feature the well-known Oregon Research Pavilion - https://www.oregonbio.org/research-pavilion - sponsored by OTRADI (Oregon Translational Research and Development Institute) and ONAMI (Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute). Aimed at attracting potential partners and investors, the pavilion will show Oregon's top research initiatives and commercialization candidates. As in past years, a select group of companies will be making 15-minute "investment pitches" at our presenting companies investment competition.

Day two on Sept. 16 will focus on 'Lessons on Inflection Points,' and will explore how companies, organizations and bio leaders can navigate the fast pace of industry growth and change. Presentations and peer-to-peer networking will focus on how new business models are being tried and implemented. Notes McNannay, "As we try to keep pace with revolutionary new technologies, we recognize such inflection points are often disruptive. Oregon must learn how industry developments, such as the Knight Cancer Challenge, will fundamentally change our growth trajectory."

Day three, Sept. 17, titled Biosensor/Data Processing Day, highlights the emergence of the latest generation of biosensors and the new market this technology enables. Driven by breakthroughs in micro-electronics and ubiquitous internet access, McNannay explains, "Most industry watchers believe biosensors will fuel the creation of new markets and product categories." Oregon Bio is coordinating Day three's curriculum with theTechnology Association of Oregon.

Oregon Bio thanks its Platinum, Presentation Track and Silver sponsors including Intel Health, Biotronik/MSEI, Oregon Health & Science University, OTRADI, ONAMI, BIO, Genentech, HDR Architecture Inc, MedMark, Galena Biopharma, Advamed, Eli Lilly and TE Connectivity.

Registration is now open for the Sept. 15-17. The early bird registration deadline ends Aug. 31.  Click on https://oregonbio.org/registration-fees to register or call the association at (503) 548-4432.
