Barney Speight Returns to ODS, Again

March 2, 2011 -- Talk about a revolving door. Barney Speight has returned again to work for ODS Companies, bookmarked by two stints with state government.
This time he returned as the health insurers’ vice president of legislative affairs.
Speight left his job with the Oregon Health Authority after a little more than a year as director of healthcare purchasing. Before that, he worked for ODS as managing director of medical professional relations for about a year. And prior to that, he served as executive director of the Oregon Health Fund Board, which led the way in passing HB 2009.
In Speight’s 30 year career, he’s worked for nearly every sector in the healthcare system, including Regence BlueCross BlueShield, the Oregon Medical Association, Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital, Kaiser Permanente and the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. He also served as director of the Oregon Office of Health Policy and Research.
Speight could not be reached for comment. In August, he told The Lund Report he planned to retire.
“Barney will be helping us strategize for all of the changes coming in healthcare reform,” said Jonathan Nichols, ODS spokesman. “He’s been so involved in these issues for so long and he cares about these issues so deeply. We’re really looking forward to working with him.”
