Background Information on Oregon’s Health CO-OP's new board members.

Recently elected board members Bjorn Borstelmann, Hilary Bradbury, and Andrew Kyler bring new levels of excitement and industry awareness to the organization’s leadership.

Portland, Ore –With the recent election of three of its members to their board of directors, Oregon’s Health CO-OP continues its push to give consumers greater voice and control in the health insurance process.

With a proven background in business building and branding, Mr. Borstelmann will provide input and leadership around large and small communications efforts, from how the CO-OP represents itself, to the ways the organization engages with people across different technologies. Among his professional highlights include the following:

  • Entrepreneur and owner of several e-commerce subscription businesses.
  • Internet marketing and brand management services.
  • Academic training at Miami Ad School in Hamburg Germany in advertising, art
  • direction, copywriting and strategic planning.
  • Numerous national awards in art direction and advertising.

Ms. Bradbury's many passions include a keen interest in creating healthier communities on a person-to-person, and organizational level. She will play a major role in how the CO-OP reaches out to people and businesses across the state, and will be a key influence in helping the organization continue to live up to its vision. Professional highlights include:

  • Education and training in Organizational Development, systems learning, design
  • of collaborative structures.
  • Served on not for profit boards, as an elected official in California, including
  • Greater Pasadena Community College and Union Station Homelessness Services.
  • Professor in the Division of Management at Oregon Health Sciences University
  • (OHSU), teaching organizational change. Founder and editor of international
  • journal (Action Research).
  • Management Consultant, Integrating Catalysts, and co-founder, Action Inquiry
  • Associates and Society for Organizational Learning.

Mr. Kyler brings three-plus decades of experience in health care, in addition to a deep level of compassion for patients across the health continuum. A fourth-generation Oregonian, he is the CEO of Care Partners, a hospice and palliative care community non-profit. Additional professional highlights include the following:

  • Health Care executive with Kaiser Permanente, Good Samaritan Hospital, Mercy
  • Medical Center. Focus areas include ambulatory and nursing care, program
  • development, behavioral health and home/long-term care.
  • Regulatory compliance, risk management, quality and utilization management
  • experience.
  • Director and Board President of Oregon Hospice Association; Board of
  • Directors: Maryville Nursing Home, Tuality Hospital Board.

Moving beyond business as usual

“Traditionally, boards are made up of handpicked individuals,” says Dr. Ralph Prows, CEO of Oregon’s Health CO-OP. “When you look at us, the majority of our board are actual members who receive health insurance with us. Our newly elected members push this reciprocal relationship even farther. Other members voted them in, and now they’ll speak for all members as they help direct our growth and evolution.”
