Ron Wyden sits on the powerful Senate Finance Committee, he's been virtually shut out of discussions in that committee, which so far have centered on the "Gang of Six," three Democrats and three Republicans. Late last week Wyden expressed his discontent with the bill so far.
September 17, 2009 -- Regence BlueCross BlueShield is among 52 health plans across the country targeted by Congressman Henry Waxman (D-California) who’s conducting an investigation into the private health insurance industry.
As chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Waxman’s asking the nation’s largest insurers to disclose their CEO salaries, bonuses, profit margins, corporate retreats and other financial data by the end of September.
September 17, 2009 -- A high-ranking insurance executive, Steve Lynch, has switched careers, becoming the principal of a Catholic elementary school in Salem.
“I wanted to get out of corporate life and move back to Oregon,” Lynch told TheLundReport.org. He spent the past eight years as president of Health Net’s health plan division, living in Los Angeles, and earlier ran its Oregon division. He also had a career with PacifiCare of Oregon.
September 16, 2009 -- Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) today announced the hiring of Lawrence E. Revill as OHSU’s new Chief Financial Officer.
Revill has nearly 20 years of experience in an academic health center setting, serving in a variety of finance capacities at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, since 1991, including vice president of finance and chief financial officer since 1999.
Setpember 15, 2009 -- As President Obama struggles to enact meaningful health reform, Oregon is poised to transform its healthcare system, according to Dr. Bruce Goldberg, acting administrator of the Oregon Health Authority and director of Oregon's Department of Human Services.
September 15, 2009 -- Hats off to Lillian Shirley. She's just been named vice president and president-elect of the National Association of County and City Health Officials.
Lillian, director of Multnomah County's Health Department, also was appointed by Gov. Kulongoski as vice-chairman of the newly formed Oregon Health Policy Board, which is expected to transform Oregon's healthcare system following the passage of House Bill 2009.
September 15, 2009 -- It's permanent for Errin Kelley-Siel who's officially become the assistant director of the Children, Adults and Family Division of the Department of Human Services.
Since July 2008 Kelley-Siel has been the interim director of the agency and earlier was the health and human services advisor to Gov. Kulongoski.
Kelley-Siel served as interim director at a time when the state's foster care system went through considerable scrutiny after reports in the Oregonian that the division failed to protect children.
