Five Oregon Medical and PA Students Receive Scholarships at OMA Event

 
May 9, 2013 -- The Oregon Medical Association and its members hosted the second annual Party in the Pearl in Portland on April 19 for one purpose: to award $20,000 from the OMA Medical Scholarship Fund to medical and PA students. One student from each of the Oregon’s four medical and physician assistant programs was awarded a $4,000 scholarship, along with a fifth ‘wild card’ scholarship winner.

Oregon Medical Association and Partners to Host Health Fair  

Event at Oregon Convention Center Plaza will offer screening, education and care
 
WHAT:
For the first time, OMA’s annual membership meeting will include a free health fair for uninsured and underinsured adults. From 8:00 until 3:00 on April 19 at the plaza of the Oregon Convention Center, attendees can get free medical screenings for diabetes glaucoma, and blood pressure, access urgent dental care, get information on eating healthy, learn about their personal health profile, talk with a pharmacist about their medications and more.

Planned Parenthood Wants Pregnancy Centers to Display Their Services

Similar measures to require anti-abortion counseling centers to display signs have run afoul of the First Amendment and have been struck down by federal courts. SB 490 would require centers to display signs that they have no medical staff and do not offer prenatal care, contraceptives or abortions.
  April 3, 2013 — Planned Parenthood is pushing Senate Bill 490, which would require crisis pregnancy centers to declare upfront in signs whether they offer abortion, contraceptive or adoption services and if patients will receive services from a medical provider.
