Klamath County’s CCO Moves Ahead

May 30, 2013 -- After more than a year long struggle, the coordinated care organization in Klamath County is about to see the light of day. Earlier this week its county commissioners, by a 2-1 vote, approved a memorandum of understanding with Cascade Comprehensive Care. Executive Director Bill Guest said the breakthrough came after the Oregon Health Authority intervened, producing a document that delineated the essential mental health benefits of a CCO, which had been a bone of contention among county residents. Greenlick, CCOs, Agree to Minimum Standard of Public Oversight

An amendment to Senate Bill 725 severely scales back previous attempts to force the CCOs to operate in public, makes no demands that CCOs aren’t currently abiding, and only requires public participation twice a year.

Senate Passes “Air-Conditioner Bill” to Help CCOs

SB 724 sets the stage for coordinated care organizations to use their global medical budget to pay for common-sense social work expenses that would keep vulnerable Medicaid patients out of the hospital and lead to lower costs. CCOs still need federal approval.

Bates Offers Path for CCOs to Roll in Dental Networks

SB 373 requires CCOs to offer dental contracts to all dental care organizations from 2014 to 2017 before they contract with other dental care providers such as Kaiser Permanente.

Greenlick Wants Public Comment Period, but CCOs Resist

The chair of the House Health Committee has proposed a compromise version of earlier legislation that would have subjected coordinated care organizations to the public meetings law. HB 2960 would require private board meetings to have a public comment period and open advisory councils to public.
