St. Charles Health System refuses to sign contract with the health plan
May 26, 2010 – For the second time in less than a year, Trillium Community Health Plan came up short in central Oregon – losing both times to PacificSource Health Plans.
Trillium had attempted to expand its Medicare Advantage Plan, filing an application with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services earlier this year.
“But we weren’t able to get a sufficient provider panel to meet the CMS requirements,” said Terry Coplin, executive director. “I’m very disappointed. I think we could have brought a significant amount of value to patients and physicians in that community.”
As reporter earlier by The Lund Report (INCLUDE LINK), Trillium had inked a contract with the Central Oregon IPA, which represents 375 physicians, according to its executive director John Ryan.
However, negotiations failed with St. Charles Health System, which owns and manages hospitals in Bend, Madras, Prineville and Redmond.
With 3,000 Medicare Advantage members in Lane and Jackson counties, Trillium is looking around for other opportunities, Coplin said. “Right now, we’re evaluating our options. The biggest challenge is getting the provider panel in place, both for facilities and physicians.”
Last fall, Trillium made an unsuccessful bid to purchase Clear One Health Plans, which has since been acquired by PacificSource.
Trillium, a subsidiary of Agate Resources, is a privately-held company and also runs the Lane County IPA, which had 35,274 Oregon Health Plan members on April 15.
