We’ve almost reached our fund-raising goal to match the $10,000 challenge grant to hire a news reporter to cover the 2011 Oregon Legislature

December 21, 2010 – The generosity of you – our readers – has been overwhelming. On behalf of The Lund Report, I want to express my deepest gratitude and best wishes for a wonderful holiday!

As you know, the board of directors of the Northwest Health Foundation has graciously agreed to give us a $10,000 matching grant so we can hire a news reporter to focus on the emerging healthcare issues facing lawmakers during the 2011 session.

I am pleased to let you know that we’re very close to reaching this goal, and only need to raise another $2,855 in the next few weeks.

You can either click here to donate or click on the right-hand button of your screen. Or, if you prefer, you can send a check to The Lund Report, PO Box 82841, Portland OR 97282. Either way, I’ll be pleased to send you a receipt for tax purposes. The Lund Report is considered a nonprofit (501-C-03) by the IRS.

As editor of The Lund Report, I do not draw a salary or receive other compensation. All of the funds we raise are spent on freelance reporters and to keep our website up and running.

It’s critical that The Lund Report remains on the scene because there’s nothing else like us in the community. As the legislature faces a $3.5 billion deficit, no one expects healthcare services to remain unscathed. Even Governor-elect John Kitzhaber told political and community leaders recently that Oregon is headed toward a “death spiral” unless lawmakers make dramatic changes in the way government spends its money and delivers services.

Since its inception in April 2009, The Lund Report has been a phenomenal success. Each week more than 7,000 people read our stories, and our numbers keep climbing.

I built The Lund Report on my passion to tell the truth, refusing to yield to corporate interests. Now the need for useful, accurate information is greater than ever. You can rely on us for quality journalism.

I’ve poured my heart into bringing you stories you won’t find elsewhere such as the profitability of Oregon’s health insurers and the growing access problems.

Thanks for believing in what I do. Everyone deserves to have access to the latest information about our complex and troubled healthcare system. That’s why The Lund Report doesn’t charge a subscription fee or accept advertisements. And, you can be assured – never will. Instead, I’ll continue to rely on the support of our readers.
