Legacy's New Child Hospital Rises in North Portland

Emanuel's children's hospital will attract patients from many West Coast locations who need acute care unavailable in smaller communities

$mugshot$October 18, 2010 -- A tall crane and sure-footed ironworkers will install the final steel beams this week on a nine-story tower at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center intended to be a cutting-edge children's hospital when it opens in 2012.

At 330,000 square feet, the Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital is the centerpiece of a $242 million expansion that ranks as Portland's costliest development on the inner east side since reconstruction of the Lloyd Center shopping mall nearly 20 years ago.
