June 28, 2010 -- Dr. Kevin Keck, FACP, has resigned as chief medical officer of Providence Health Plans effective July 31 and intends to relocate to northern California to be closer to his 89-year-old mother.

“Kevin has done great work for us,” said Jack Friedman, CEO of Providence Health Plans. “He came in when our medical management program was ill defined and built it into a wonderful set of services, which have flourished under his leadership.

“We intend to celebrate him, and begin searching for a new CMO to continue his tradition.”

Keck, who became chief medical officer 10 years ago, joined the Providence Health System in 1998. He’s also been an active participant in the Oregon Health Leadership Council.

Before moving to Portland, Keck was medical director of Northern California Med Partners, ran a 100-physician department at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento and also was a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, Davis.

“Kevin’s not finished working yet,” Friedman said. “He’s a very young guy in many ways, and we’re going to miss him.”
