Compass Oncology Rolls Out Innovative Patient Portal that Offers New Resources for Cancer Patients

January 15, 2014
For the last six months, Compass Oncology, the region’s largest independently owned oncology practice, has served as a pilot site for an innovative patient portal designed specifically for cancer patients. My Care PlusSM goes beyond the typical electronic health record (EHR) and provides cancer patients with meaningful educational content to help them during diagnosis, treatment and recovery.   The secure online portal was developed by McKesson Specialty Health (MSH), in part, to help oncology practices meet the objectives for EHR technology under healthcare reform. Compass Oncology was chosen as a pilot site through its affiliation with The US Oncology Network, part of MSH. “The multidisciplinary nature of today’s cancer care is complex and so are the needs of cancer patients. We are very pleased with the benefits My Care Plus brings to our patients,” said Dr. Gregory Patton, Practice President of Compass Oncology. “Our patients have full access to their own personal health information, all members of the healthcare team seamlessly share information and we are able to improve the patient experience with valuable information that empowers patients to be better advocates in their own care.”   More than 50 community oncology practices and 55,000 patients across the country are now utilizing this innovative technology. Resources include extensive medication information, including single and multiple agent regimen overviews detailing administration and possible side effects, developed by a team of healthcare professionals at McKesson Specialty Health. Additional CURE Today resources featuring patient experiences and cancer guides are also available to patients to support them in their cancer journey. Disease and condition information, provided by the American Cancer Society will be released later this year.   “Patients with cancer and hematologic maladies are seeking access to their personal health information and educational content to aid them through their cancer journey,” said Dan Lodder, vice president of Technology Sales and Portals for McKesson Specialty Health. “We fundamentally believe that a more engaged, informed and empowered patient will lead to better outcomes and quality of life.”     About Compass Oncology Compass Oncology is the largest multi-specialty medical practice in the Pacific Northwest dedicated solely to providing state-of-the-art, comprehensive care for patients with cancer or diseases of the blood.
