Press Release

April 6, 2011 -- As part of its ongoing effort to deliver high quality healthcare, the Central Oregon Independent Practice Association (COIPA) has merged its electronic health record subsidiary, known as Central Oregon Electronic Medical Records (COEMR), with OCHIN Inc., a national HIT organization headquartered in Portland.

According to Dr. Steve Mann, president of COIPA, “The combination of COEMR and OCHIN supplies even more resources to the critically important initiative of bringing affordable digital technology to the providers of central Oregon.

“OCHIN, a company founded in 2000 and headquartered in Portland, is the undisputed market leader in Oregon relative to the deployment and support of electronic health record software”, he said.

OCHIN was attracted to COEMR because of COEMR’s strong presence in central Oregon and its reputation of delivering top flight client support service to over 40 central Oregon healthcare practices and clinics, Dr. Mann added.

“We are excited that OCHIN will continue to maintain a presence in Bend and has plans for actually adding jobs here in central Oregon,” he said. All of the current COEMR staff members will become OCHIN employees and will continue to deliver electronic health record support services.

Abby Sears, chief executive officer of OCHIN said, “Through this collaboration with COIPA and COEMR we’re supporting and strengthening an existing infrastructure in central Oregon that will continue to enhance healthcare delivery to Oregonians.”

Mid-Valley Public Health Authority (MVPHA) and OCHIN/O-HITEC have announced a partnership that will advance electronic health record adoption in Oregon. MVP Health Authority, previously know as Mid-Valley Independent Physicians Association, is the reason NextGen Healthcare made O-HITEC’s preferred vendor list in Oregon.

MVPHA has systematically encouraged electronic health record adoption among its members and continues to be a powerful supporter of its clinicians by providing exceptional installation and ongoing servicing of the NextGen EHR.

“Our efforts to improve patient care and lower healthcare costs continue to be the driving force of MVPHA”, said Dr. Greg Fraser, MVPHA’s chief medical information officer. “Our goal is to continue to support providers currently using the NextGen product, provide the same high level of services to new NextGen users, and assure that each one meets the federal standards for meaningful use of an HER.”

O-HITEC will work with MVPHA practices to help them meet meaningful use as defined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. O-HITEC will use a menu of consulting services to assist MVPHA providers in meeting the meaningful use measures so they can qualify for EHR incentives of up to $64,000 per Medicaid-eligible provider or up to $44,000 per Medicare-eligible provider.

Both organizations are committed to informing providers of the value of EHRs as a vehicle to reduce duplicity, improve patient care and reduce costs. “The federal incentives won’t be around for long, and we want every provider who plans to purchase an EHR to take advantage of the federal incentives available to help defray those costs, “ said Clayton Gillett, O-HITEC’s executive director. “ We believe MVPHA ‘s expertise related to EHR implementation and usage will be a great help to providers considering the NextGen HER.”
